Bodø es un municipio y una ciudad de Noruega, capital de la provincia de Nordland y la segunda localidad más poblada de la región de Nord-Norge, con 50 185 habitantes en su término municipal en 2015.[1]
Bodø se sitúa al norte del círculo polar ártico y tiene sol de medianoche desde el 4 de junio hasta el 8 de julio. Su posición entre el mar y el interior le ha otorgado un importante desarrollo económico desde el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, apoyado en el sector terciario .
El nombre de Bodø se ha utilizado por lo menos desde el siglo XVI. Posiblemente el nombre es una deformación de Bodin, localidad que en esa época era el centro religioso de la zona. El nombre Bodin posiblemente significa «lugar junto al río» en nórdico antiguo, pero también es posible que Bodø sea un nombre compuesto de bodeiarr y ø y signifique por lo tanto «isla con casas».
