Construit à partir de 1655 en brique et pierre calcaire sur un promontoire rocheux, le château de Modave est constitué d’un corps central accosté de deux ailes en saillie. En 1706, le château est acquis par le baron Arnold de Ville qui a mis au point la machine de Marly, qui permettait d’élever les eaux de la Seine jusqu’à Versailles, en s’inspirant de la machine inventée par Renkin Sualem pour alimenter les fontaines de Modave.
