Cette œuvre d'art est située sur la Margarethaplein en face de l' Onze-Lieve-Vrouwgasthuis.
La représentation de Charles Quint sur son chevalet est une copie d'une plus grande statue en bronze coulé , d'environ quatre mètres de haut . Les artistes Michael Elmgreen et Ingar Dragstedt l'ont développé en 2012 pour le projet Fourt Plinth à Trafalgar Square à Londres.
Cette statue en bronze , haute d'environ 1,50 m , est une représentation idéalisée du jeune Charles Quint à cheval. L'empereur Charles Quint a grandi avec sa tante Marguerite d'Autriche à la cour de Malines. Le palais de Marguerite d'Autriche est un peu plus loin et diagonalement opposé. Margareta choisit l'immense Hof van Kamerijk comme domaine de sa veuve. On l'appelle aussi Kaiserhof parce que l'empereur Karl y séjourna de 1500 à 1515 .
