Lausanne [lɔzan] est une ville suisse située sur la rive nord du lac Léman. Elle est la capitale et ville principale du canton de Vaud et le chef-lieu du district de Lausanne. Elle constitue la quatrième ville du pays en nombre d'habitants après Zurich, Genève et Bâle. Fin 2019, la commune de Lausanne compte 146 032 habitants. En 2018, l'agglomération lausannoise compte 420 757 habitants. En 2012, l'agglomération lausannoise concentre 50 % de la population et 60 % des emplois du canton de Vaud.
Le campus regroupant l'Université de Lausanne et l'École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne compte quelque 26 000 étudiants,. La ville héberge également des hautes écoles prestigieuses comme l'École hôtelière de Lausanne , l'École cantonale d'art de Lausanne et l'International Institute for Management Development .
