Le Musée juif de Berlin est l'un des musées les plus grands d’Europe. Créé par l'architecte américain d'origine polonaise Daniel Libeskind, il a été construit de 1993 à 1998 et inauguré en 2001. Situé dans le quartier de Kreuzberg à Berlin, il est constitué de deux bâtiments abritant une exposition permanente et de nombreuses expositions temporaires retraçant deux millénaires d’histoire des Juifs en Allemagne.
Depuis 1997, le musée a été dirigé par Werner Michael Blumenthal, qui fut secrétaire au trésor des États-Unis. Il accueille environ 850 000 visiteurs par an.Peter Schäfer était devenu directeur le 1er septembre 2014, après que W. Michael Blumenthal ait dirigé l'institution pendant 17 ans. Peter Schäfer a annoncé sa démission en juin 2019.
