Le siège de Xàtiva, dans le Royaume de Valence , se déroula du 8 mai au 6 juin 1707 pendant la Guerre de Succession d'Espagne. Les troupes de Philippe de Bourbon, futur Philippe V d'Espagne, y furent victorieuses.
À l'issue de celui-ci, et en guise de châtiment exemplaire, on ordonna le massacre de tous ceux qui avaient participé à la défense de la ville ainsi que la déportation de la plus grande partie des autres habitants dans la Manche. La ville fut incendiée et rebaptisée « San Felipe ». En référence à cet épisode tragique de leur histoire, les habitants de Xàtiva sont affublés du surnom de « socarrats » .
