L'université de Californie à Santa Cruz est un campus de l'université de Californie, situé à Santa Cruz. Le campus est à 119 kilomètres de San Francisco. UCSC a été fondée en 1965.
L'Assemblée du syndicat des étudiants a été fondée en 1985 pour mieux coordonner les positions de négociation des étudiants et de l'administration sur les questions concernant l'ensemble du campus. Tous les collèges résidentiels et six organisations ethniques et liées au genre envoient des délégués à l'Assemblée du syndicat des étudiants. Il y avait un total de 138 groupes d'étudiants reconnus en 2008.
