Vismarkt al Dijle è il posto dove stare e il posto più romantico e alla moda per la vita notturna di Mechelen.
Dopo la morte di Margherita d'Austria nel 1531 , si decise di spostare il mercato del pesce nell'attuale mercato del pesce a causa dell'odore di Préstec de Ferro . Fino ad allora in realtà non veniva menzionato il nome Vismarkt, ma la "Nauwstraat" , che ancora oggi è ricordata da una stradina.
Da quel momento in poi, la piazza rettangolare fu separata dal Dyle da un muro di mattoni e protetta da ringhiere in ferro del XX secolo.
Il Vismarkt è ora collegato a Haverwerf e Lamot Place da un ponte di metallo sul Dyle e sull'Haverwerf.
Oggi ci sono ancora alcune pescherie, ma la maggior parte delle attività commerciali sono caffè, brasserie, ristoranti e 1 hotel a quattro stelle.
