Bishop's Stortford è una città di 35.325 abitanti storicamente nota per il suo mercato. Si trova nel distretto dell'East Hertfordshire, nella contea dell'Hertfordshire in Inghilterra. È situata ad ovest dell'autostrada M11, sul confine con la contea dell'Essex ed è la città più grande nelle vicinanze dell'aeroporto di Londra-Stansted. Bishop's Stortford si trova a 47 km a nord est della stazione londinese di Charing Cross e a 56 km dalla stazione ferroviaria di Liverpool Street Station dove termina il collegamento ferroviario tra Cambridge e Londra. In una popolare trasmissione televisiva del 2006 sul canale Channel 4 , l'East Hertfordshire è stato ritenuto il settimo miglior posto in cui vivere.
Nulla di storicamente importante è noto sull'area di Bishop's Stortford fino a quando diventa un piccolo insediamento sulla strada romana di Stane Street tra Braughing e Colchester. Dopo la caduta dell'Impero romano d'Occidente, la piccola città venne abbandonata nel V secolo.
