Il territorio di Samugheo, che si estende per 81,27 km², confina a nord con Busachi, Ortueri e Sorgono, ad ovest con Allai e Ruinas, a sud con Asuni, ad est con Atzara, Meana Sardo e Laconi. Raggiunge l'altezza massima di 650m.
