Ascoli Piceno è un comune italiano di 45 803 abitanti, capoluogo dell'omonima provincia nelle Marche.
Il centro storico, costruito quasi interamente in travertino, è tra i più monumentali d'Italia e in esso si trova la rinascimentale piazza del Popolo. In epoca medievale era caratterizzato dalla presenza di circa duecento torri, la cui erezione iniziò subito dopo il mille. Secondo la tradizione, Federico II ne fece distruggere novantuno nel 1242 e la loro riduzione proseguì nei secoli successivi. Ancora oggi conserva diversi esempi di torri gentilizie e campanarie ed è nota come la Città delle cento torri. È l'unica città della regione ad avere due teatri storici, il Ventidio Basso e il Filarmonici.
