Il Volvo Car Open, conosciuto in precedenza come Family Circle Cup è un torneo di tennis femminile del WTA Tour nato nel 1973. A partire dal 2001 il torneo si gioca sulla terra verde del Daniel Island Tennis Center a Charleston nella Carolina del Sud. Dal 1973 al 2000, il torneo si è giocato a Sea Pines Plantation sulla Hilton Head Island ad eccezione del 1975 e 1976 quando si è giocato ad Amelia Island nella costa della Florida. Dopo essere stato un evento del Tier I dal 1990 al 2008, dal 2009 al 2020 ha fatto parte della categoria Premier, mentre sdal 2021 è entrato a far parte della categoria WTA 500.
La Family Circle Cup è stata disputa per la prima volta a Hilton Head nel 1973; Dal 2001 la sede è stata spostata a Charleston. L'edizione del 2020 non viene disputata a causa della pandemia di COVID-19.
