Hier steek je de Kleine Beek over. Het pad loopt over een dikke veenlaag. Veen ontstaat in moerassen en is een natte, zuurstofarme en sponsachtige grondsoort opgebouwd uit plantaardig materiaal. Op het natte veen groeien bijzondere plantensoorten zoals wateraardbei (foto), veenmos, moeraswederik en waterdrieblad. Gedroogd veen, beter bekend als turf, is brandbaar en werd vroeger vaak ontgonnen als brandstof.
