De kade getuigt van de vervlogen rijkdom van Waasten. Vroeger droegen de lakenconfectie, de rotting en het weven van linnen bij tot de welvarendheid van de stad. Tal van straten stromen samen in 'Le Rivage'. Deze kade bruist van opwinding. Het Verdrag van Utrecht uit 1719 legt de Leie vast als grens. De aan Europese normen aangepaste Leie hanteert vandaag een meer rechtlijnig tracé, tussen Frankrijk en België. Haar vroegere meanders vormen nu ideale wandelplekjes voor 'ontdekkingsreizigers' en liefhebbers van stilte.
