Bouwen en verbouwen, het blijft een favoriet tijdverdrijf. Zelfs voor koningen en vorsten. Neem nu het Schloss Linderhof, de koninklijke villa van Ludwig II én het enige slot dat ook daadwerkelijk door deze excentrieke koning bewoond werd. De Beierse koning Maximilaan II, Ludwigs vader, kocht het oorspronkelijke jachthuis in het midden van de negentiende eeuw. In de tuinen staan allerlei kitscherige gebouwen, zoals het Zwanenmeer, de Venusgrot en het Marokkaanse huis, waar de mensenschuwe koning zich helemaal - in zijn ongetwijfeld rijke fantasiewereld - kon uitleven.
