Het metrostation in het noordelijk deel van de wijk Ørestad op het eiland Amager werd geopend op 19 oktober 2002 en is een station aan metrolijn M1. Het station bevindt zich op een viaduct parallel aan de Ørestads Boulevard, de belangrijkste ontsluitingsweg van de wijk Ørestad.
Het is vernoemd naar het gelijknamige DR Byen , het hoofdkantoor van de Deense staatsomroep Danmarks Radio met studio's en een concertzaal, dat vlak bij het station gevestigd is. Oorspronkelijk was dit station Universitetet genaamd, omdat de Universiteit van Kopenhagen plannen had om in de buurt van dit station nieuwe universiteitsgebouwen te realiseren. Toen deze plannen werden geschrapt, omdat deze gebouwen bij het station Islands Brygge werden gebouwd, werd de naam van het station in 2006 gewijzigd.
