Het zeventiende wereldkampioenschap basketbal is gehouden in Spanje van 30 augustus 2014 tot en met 14 september 2014. Het toernooi kreeg de nieuwe naam FIBA Basketball World Cup. De volgende editie van dit toernooi zal vijf jaar later worden georganiseerd zodat het niet meer in hetzelfde jaar als het wereldkampioenschap voetbal wordt gehouden. Daarna wordt opnieuw overgeschakeld op een toernooi om de vier jaar.
