Bij Venasque komen we op de hoofdweg: de D4 naar Apt. Deze weg gaan we een hele poos volgen. We passeren Venasque dat boven ons op een heuvelrug ligt. Reken op zeker 10 kilometer klimmen.
De weg slingert eerst door een bos en later tussen de fruitbomen en wijnstokken. Bijna op het einde van het valleitje maakt de hoofdweg een haakse bocht naar rechts om wat verder met een ruime bocht tegen de heuvels op te klimmen. Net aan het begin van de heuvels waar de hoofdweg in een beboste kloof verdwijnt slaan wij rechtsaf op de D177 naar Gordes.
