De Tendapas ligt op de grens van Italië en Frankrijk . Hij kan beschouwd worden als de zuidelijkste van de grote Alpenpassen. Onder de pasweg door lopen twee 3,2 kilometer lange tunnels, een autotunnel en een tunnel voor de Tendaspoorlijn. De tunnels zijn in 1882 geopend en zijn daarmee de oudste tunnels van de Alpen. De tunnel voor het wegverkeer is smal en van matige kwaliteit. Om deze reden staat er een nieuwe tunnel gepland: de Traforo del Mercantour. Deze komt ongeveer dertig kilometer westelijker te liggen onder de Lombardapas.
