Glencoe aan de oever van Loch Leven ligt er doorgaans heel vredig bij. Ooit was het anders. In de winter van 1692 was Glencoe het toneel van een massamoord. Bloeddorstige leden van de Campbellclan doodden toen alle mannen van de MacDonaldclan. Het moest hun straf zijn voor hun aarzelende eedaflegging tegenover koning-stadhouder Willem III. Een Keltisch kruis midden in het dorp herinnert aan deze slachtpartij.
