Francesco Carrara (geboren in Lucca op18 september 1805, stierf in Lucca , op15 januari 1888) is een Italiaanse advocaat en politicus.
Hij studeerde af in jurisprudentie aan de Universiteit van Lucca . Hij was hoogleraar strafrecht aan de Universiteit van Lucca (1848 - 1859), vervolgens hoogleraar strafrecht aan de Universiteit van Pisa (1860 ).
Francesco Carrara werd gekozen tot plaatsvervanger ( 865 - 1870 ), vervolgens tot senator (1876 ) en uiteindelijk benoemd tot lid van de Hoge Raad voor Openbaar Onderwijs (1881-1886). Hij pleit voor afschaffing van de doodstraf.
Hij is lid van de Nationale Academie van Wetenschappen, Letteren en Kunsten in Modena (1872), corresponderend lid van het Lombard Instituut voor Wetenschappen en Letteren in Milaan (1873), nationaal lid van de Academie van Lincei in Rome (1875).
Als advocaat is hij de auteur van verschillende boeken, waaronder Fundamental Principles of the Italian Criminal School (1876).
