In Woudrichem vloeien de Maas en de Rijn - hier de Waal genoemd - weer samen, nadat ze aan het trotse Doornenburg uit elkaar gingen. De rivieren geven in die mate de toon aan dat men spreekt over het Land van Maas en Waal.
De wallen en grachten die in 1580 in Woudrichem werden aangelegd, liggen er nog net zo bij als toen. Je wordt hier verleid tot een wandeling bovenop de omwalling. Woudrichem was ooit een welvarend vissersdorpje. In de 15de eeuw moest het de duimen leggen voor Gorinchem, dat iets noordelijker ligt. In het kleine haventje tref je alleen plezierbootjes aan.
