De Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden is de bibliotheek van de Nederlandse Universiteit Leiden. Zij is opgericht in 1575 en maakt deel uit van het geringe aantal cultuurcentra die in de Nieuwe Tijd richting gaven aan de ontwikkeling en verspreiding van kennis. De bibliotheek bevat unieke bronnen van hoge kwaliteit en zij omvat ongeveer 5.200.000 banden, 1.000.000 e-boeken, 70.000 e-tijdschriften, 2.000 lopende papieren tijdschriften, 60.000 oosterse en westerse manuscripten, 500.000 brieven, 100.000 kaarten, 100.000 prenten, 12.000 tekeningen en 300.000 foto's. De bibliotheek beheert de grootste collecties wereldwijd op het gebied van Indonesië en van de Caraïben. Daarnaast is de UB Leiden de enige erfgoedorganisatie in Nederland met drie registraties van documenten in UNESCO’s Werelderfgoedlijst / Memory of the World.
