Pytheas's Choice

Globespot of the month

Set-up

Every month, we ask somebody to be a modern Pytheas and tell us something about the most amazing place they have ever experienced, and explain why this is!

All eyes are focussed on the Olympic Games. And you must have noticed the great architecture of the stadiums of these games this year.

We selected the Bird's Nest stadium, officially the Beijing National Stadium, as the Pytheas spot of the month.

Did you know the construction of this stadium was stopped when the terminal of Charles de Gaulle in Paris collapsed. What's the link, you wonder? So did we. It seems that these buildings have a similar design.

After a few checks and adaptations to the design, they continued this fabulous construction.

Still planning a trip to China? This tour might be a suggestion in Beijing: Check out the Olympic Green tour.

Are you our next Pytheas of the Month? Tell us about the most amazing globe-spot you have ever experienced! Or alternatively, ask a friend who you think has a favourite globe-spot and would like to share it with the RouteYou community.

The picture of the month is provided by ArcheoNet. You can find is along the route Erfgoed in Zedelgem.

It's a picture of the castle of Loppem, near Bruge, Belgium, and is one of the master examples of the Flemish neogotic style.

It is here that King Albert I stayed in 1918, to create the new Belgian government after the war.

The Techy-spot

Set-up

Every month, we nominate a more technical item here which is linked to RouteYou activities, directly or indirectly. We have named this item in honor of Alan Turing.

The Gluring Turing example of this month is also related to the Olympic Games.

The BBC News spotted this creative Chinese guy.
