A l'edat mitjana, Dinant era una ciutat rica i poderosa , que va construir molt aviat un enorme anell de muralles , que va requerir la construcció de nombroses torres i portes . Les muralles de la ciutat ja són esmentades en 1239 g .
L'estructura fortificada de Dry-les-Wennes podria haver estat construïda al segle XIII .
Situats al nord de la ciutat, al lloc conegut com a Dry-les-Wennes , les muralles s'estenen per la Rue Saint-Pierre al nivell de l'Athénée Royal i acaben al cim de la vall de la Rue Saint-Jacques. S'estenen de nord a sud a la meitat del costat dret de la vall, seguint el relleu de la roca. Les restes comprenen un mur perimetral ininterromput, de 450 m de llarg i senyalitzat a intervals regulars; una gran torre heptagonal (Torre Taravisée) i quatre torres molt ben conservada.
