La capella de Notre-Dame de la Salette va ser construïda l'any 1849 per la família Anciaux.
L'any 1846 hi va haver una aparició de Maria a dos pastors a La Salette, reconegut per l'Església Catòlica.
Des de llavors, La Salette, un petit poble del municipi de La Salette-Fallavaux prop de Grenoble , s'ha convertit en una veritable destinació de pelegrinatge.
