La chapelle Notre-Dame de la Salette a été construite en 1849 par la famille Anciaux.
En 1846, il y eut une apparition de Marie à deux enfants bergers à La Salette, reconnue par l'Église catholique.
Depuis, La Salette, petit village de la commune de La Salette-Fallavaux près de Grenoble , est devenu un véritable lieu de pèlerinage.
