El bisbat d'Urgell és una demarcació eclesiàstica de Catalunya i Andorra sufragània de l'església Metropolitana de Tarragona. El seu origen és, com a mínim, del segle v amb capital a la Seu d'Urgell i el nom del Bisbat està relacionat amb el territori històric de l'Urgellet on es troba la capital, i a l'antic nom de la Seu que era Urgell o Ciutat d'Urgell. Alhora la capital deu el seu nom al bisbat d'Urgell, ja que en llatí vicus Sedes Urgelli significa barri de la seu d'Urgell o capital del bisbat d'Urgell.
