La diòcesi de León té la seu episcopal a la ciutat de Lleó, depenent des de 1955 de l'arxidiòcesi d'Oviedo.
La primera notícia de la seu episcopal lleonesa es troba en l'epístola 68 de sant Cebrià, dirigida a les comunitats de Lleó-Astorga i Mèrida, l'any 254 sobre la qüestió dels seus bisbes libel·làtics, Basílides i Marçal. Hi apareix, com a bisbe deposat de Lleó-Astorga, Basílides, a qui substitueix Sabí. En el concili d'Elvira signa les seves actes Decenci, bisbe de Lleó.
