Aquesta escultura de Francisco Buiza és una perfecta representació dels cigarrets i la dona treballadora de l'època.
La cigarrera representa un grup concret de dones que es dedicaven a la transformació del tabac , especialment al segle XIX i principis del XX.
Aquest ofici, avui desaparegut, va tenir una importància especial a Andalusia pel gran nombre de dones que hi treballaven aleshores, sobretot a la ciutat de Sevilla, tot i que també va tenir una importància, encara que en menor grau, a la ciutat de Cadis.
