La font de la plaça de Santiago, d' estil romànic, pertanyia al pati de l'Hospital de Santa Isabel d'Hongria. Aquest hospital es va construir després de la desamortització del Convent de les Mercedaren i actualment és un institut de secundària.
La plaça de Santiago és un perfecte gresol del payo i el gitano . Al costat de l' església de Santiago el Major, del segle XVI , els orígens de la plaça es remunten al segle XIII , quan Alfons X el Savi va ordenar la construcció d'una capella fora del mur perimetral , al costat de la Porta de Sant Jaume, llavors Porta de l'Olivillo. en honor a Santiago, aleshores patró catòlic de Castella.
