Kilden ved Plaza de Santiago, af romansk stil, tilhørte gården til Hospitalet for Santa Isabel af Ungarn. Dette hospital blev bygget efter afskaffelsen af Klosteret for Mercedarianerne og er nu en sekundareskole.
Plaza de Santiago er en perfekt smeltedigel af payo og gitano. Ved siden af kirken Santiago el Mayor fra det 16. århundrede går oprindelsen til pladsen tilbage til det 13. århundrede, da Alfonso X den Kloge beordrede byggeriet af et kapel uden for den perimeterale mur, ved siden af Porta de Sant Jaume, den gang Porta de l'Olivillo, til ære for Santiago, som dengang var den katolske skytshelgen for Kastilien.
