Description

Sint-Anna Kirken blev opført mellem 1641 og 1663 i barokstil for at rumme de mange pilgrimme, der kom til den for lille lokale Sint-Anna-kapelle. Den øverste del af tårnet, der er fra 1873 efter en tegning af arkitekt Théophile Bureau, indeholder en ur- og klokkerum. Mursten og Balegemsten blev anvendt som byggemateriale. Kirken bevarede sit barokinteriør fra det 17. århundrede. Det indeholder et kirkepille lavet af Pieter Van Peteghem, et gotisk dåbsfad fra det 15. århundrede og et hovedalter fra det 17. århundrede med antependium af den hellige Anna.

Over indgangsdøren står en statue af den hellige Anna, mellem to volutter. Nischen, hvor hun står, er udsmykket med et muslingemotiv. Rundt om kirken er der en Sint-Anna-ommegang, som består af Sint-Anna-kapellet på torvet og ni kapeller. Ommegangen afholdes hvert år den 26. juli, Anna’s navnedag eller den følgende søndag.
