I 1939/1940 blev der i Pamel opstillet stålbarrierer på ruller (= Cointetelementer eller antitankhindringer) og rejst en Jernmur, der fra Denderen zigzaggede over en afstand af lidt mere end en kilometer i retning mod Meerbeke. Jernmuren var en del af en afgrening af K(oningshooikt-W(aver)-linjen, afgrening som strakte sig fra Waver til Pamel. KW-linjen skulle være en hindring for tyskerne, afgreningen hindring for Frankrig og således en udtryk for Belgiens neutralitet. I slutningen af 1941 lod tyskerne demontere Jernmuren i Pamel.
