Im Jahr 1939/1940 wurde in Pamel mit stählernen Barrikaden auf Rollen (= Cointetelemente oder Panzerhindernisse) eine Eisenmauer errichtet, die sich von der Dender über eine Strecke von etwas mehr als einem Kilometer zickzackartig in Richtung Meerbeke zog. Die Eisenmauer war Teil eines Abzweigs der K(oningshooikt-W(aver)-Linie, der vom Waver nach Pamel führte. Die KW-Linie sollte ein Hindernis für die Deutschen sein, der Abzweig eine Hürde für Frankreich und so Ausdruck der Neutralität Belgiens. Ende 1941 ließen die Deutschen in Pamel die Eisenmauer abreißen.
