Nel 1939/1940 a Pamel fu eretta una barriera di ferro con barriere d'acciaio su rulli (= elementi Cointet o ostacoli anticarro) che zigzagava per un tratto di poco più di un chilometro dalla Dender in direzione di Meerbeke. La barriera di ferro faceva parte di un diramazione della linea K(oningshooikt-W(aver), diramazione che si estendeva da Waver a Pamel. La linea KW doveva costituire un ostacolo per i tedeschi, la diramazione un ostacolo per la Francia e rappresentare così la neutralità del Belgio. Alla fine del 1941 i tedeschi fecero smontare la barriera di ferro a Pamel.
