Haren har den lidt misundelsesværdige titel som den grimmeste kommune i Belgien. Men i al grimmhed er der også skønhed at opdage. Vidste du, at den nationale lufthavn engang lå her, før den flyttede til Zaventem? Haren fik også et nyt megafængsel, hvilket førte til meget lokalt protest. Den protestgruppe var så rasende, at de plæderede for uafhængighed for Haren fra Bruxelles. Men fængslet blev bygget.
