På sletten ved Rijmenam, nær Bonheiden og Keerbergen, blev der i 1578 kæmpet en vild kamp. Her kæmper en spansk hær mod den statslige hær fra Nederlandene, som en af de mange slag i den Trediveårige Krig. Op til 1000 spanske soldater skulle være faldet her i dette slag den 1. august 1578.
