Denne bøg er dækket af brandsvamp. Navnet på svampen henviser til "tøndel" eller "tænder", som er meget tør og meget brandfarligt materiale til at lave ild. Man brugte denne svamp i forhistorien til at lave tøndel. Med en flintesten blev der slået mod en marcasite (sten), hvilket fik tøndelen til at antænde. Ofte blev tøndelen også gennemblødt i hesturin og tørret, hvilket gjorde den endnu mere brandfarlig.
