Diese Buche ist mit dem Zunderschwamm bewachsen. Der Name des Schwamms verweist auf "Zunder", ein sehr trockenes und hochentzündliches Material zum Feueranzünden. Man verwendete diesen Schwamm in der Altsteinzeit, um Zunder daraus zu machen. Mit einem Feuerstein wurde auf einen Markasit (Stein) geschlagen, um den Zunder zu entzünden. Häufig wurde der Zunder auch in Pferdeurin eingeweicht und getrocknet, was ihn noch entzündlicher machte.
