Ce hêtre est envahi par le champignon amadou. Le nom du champignon fait référence à « amadou » ou « amadou » qui est un matériau très sec et hautement inflammable pour faire du feu. Ce champignon a été utilisé à l’époque préhistorique pour fabriquer de l’amadou. Un silex était utilisé pour frapper une markasite (pierre) et ainsi enflammer l’amadou. Souvent, l’amadou était également trempé dans l’urine de cheval et séché, ce qui le rendait encore plus inflammable.
