Malerkunsten fra Gust De Smet består af en unik blanding af expressionisme og kubisme, indkapslet i en meget personlig farveholdning. Han boede og arbejdede i Deurle, en del af Sint-Martens-Latem. Hans enkle hus er nu et museum. Ruten (6,5 km) starter i den maleriske landsbymidte i Deurle og fører os over Cyriel Buyssepad til de smukkeste steder i Deurle, forbi nogle museer som Gust De Smet, Dhondt-Dhaenens (MDD) og Gevaert-Minne, gennem den fantastiske Røde Beukendreef og over skovstier som Kapitteldreef. Langs ruten står informationsskilte med forklaringer om stedet, kunstnerne og deres værker.
