Bruxelles har mange havebyer. De fleste opstod i første halvdel af det 20. århundrede og skulle tilbyde arbejdende befolkning små, men solide boliger. Landskabet blev omlagt, der kom haver, der kom træer langs gadekanten, børnene fik nødvendig legeplads, og skolen var lige i nærheden. Efter en lang arbejdsdag i den nogle gange meget forurenede fabriksluft kunne man her bogstaveligt talt få vejret.
