Nu står her 129 sociale boliger. Projektet blev rost i Architekturpressen. Men engang led pesterede og sårede soldater her. Det var et forbandet sted med meget elendighed. Pesthuset eller Huys van Sinte Macharius blev bygget på et afsides, magert stykke jord langs Nederschelde, kendt som 't Sant. Fra 1582 blev her indkvarteret lidende af pesten, men især isoleret.
