På facaden af hus nr. 9 på Grote Markt, som tidligere var Café de Zwaan. Marx og Engels mødtes her. Der hænger også en mindeplade for den Belgiske Arbejderforening til minde om grundlæggelsen af arbejderpartiet i 1885. Marx opholdt sig i Bruxelles i tre år: fra 1845 til 1848. Han skrev ikke kun 'Det Kommunistiske Manifest' i Bruxelles, men opbyggede også et europæisk netværk af tilhængere. Legenden får os til at tro, at Marx arbejdede på sit Kommunistiske Manifest her i Zwaan, men det er usikkert. På nytårsaften i 1847 fejrede Marx dog nytåret her.
