Muhen nævnes første gang i 1045 som Mucheim, selvom dette kommer fra en kopi fra det 14. århundrede af den oprindelige. I 1267 blev det nævnt som Mukhein.
Muhen har et areal, per 2006, på 7 km2. Af dette areal anvendes 42,6% til landbrugsformål, mens 42,2% er skovdækket. Af resten af jorden er 15,1% bebygget, og resten er ikke-produktivt.
