Deres oprindelse går tilbage til et bryggeri med brænderi, som den store rådmand Christian Indermühle fra Kiesen byggede i 1866 på Gasthausmatte ved Hotel Interlaken. Efter hans død overtog hans sønner Carl og Albert det og oprettede i 1875 Felsenkeller i Rugen til opbevaring af øl, et bjerg ved Interlaken.
