Slottet Wernigerode i Sachsen-Anhaltiske Wernigerode fik sin nuværende form i slutningen af det 19. århundrede og blev en pejlemærkebygning i den nordtyske historisme. Det huser i dag et meget besøgt museum og en afdeling af Kulturstiftelsen Sachsen-Anhalt.
Den første skriftlige omtale af en greve af Wernigerode i året 1121 er samtidig den første omtale af rydningsbosættelsen Wernigerode, hvis begyndelse dog kan dateres til omkring et århundrede tidligere. Burg Wernigerode nævnes først i året 1213 som castrum, hvilket efterlader dens historiske oprindelse åben.
