Torgau er en stor kommune med cirka 20.000 indbyggere og administrationssæde for Landkreis Nordsachsen i Sachsen. Sammen med Dreiheide danner Torgau forvaltningsfællesskabet Torgau.
Byen Torgau ligger i den nordlige del af Fristaten Sachsen ved den vestlige bred af Elben i en højde af cirka 85 meter over havets overflade. Vest for Torgau begynder Dübener Heide, som strækker sig mod vest til Eilenburg og mod nord til Gräfenhainichen og Kemberg. Sydvest for byen ligger den Store Dam, der forsynes af den Sorte Graben, der kommer fra retningen Audenhain. Mod søen grænser Torgauer Ratsforst op til den sydlige del.
