I 1972 blev der opført et kontroltårn i Boizenburg. Her kontrollerede politiet de personer, der ønskede at betjene det 500 meter brede spærområde. Efter murens fald i 1989 ombyggede Harry Strelow kontrolbygningen til en restaurant og cateringvirksomhed. Virksomheden bærer navnet "Checkpoint Harry" i analogi med "Checkpoint Charly" i Berlin.
